In response to COVID-19, the 50th-anniversary festival is being held virtually.

April 22nd, 2020 is the 50th-anniversary of Earth Day! Join us on Saturday April 25 for the annual Earth Day Festival. Earth Day celebrates 50 years on April 22, 2020! Join us on our Facebook event page the following Saturday, April 25, for a virtual event! The annual Earth Day Festival is a time to celebrate our beautiful planet by bringing together people from all walks of life across our community to virtually connect in good spirits and harmony, virtually "meet" people from local enviro-oriented organizations and business, and learn how to participate in the stewardship of our community.

While we can't gather in person thanks to COVID-19, we can certainly gather online and provide support to the hardworking, environmentally oriented exhibitors who would have been a part of this event. You do not have to wait until the day of the event to show your support! Feel free to browse the exhibitors and vendors listed in the event discussion and reach out to them directly if you'd like to learn more about their cause, volunteer or shop with them, or just connect.

Wilmington Earth Day Alliance is composing a virtual scavenger hunt to engage the public from home this year. The EDA will pick 20 exhibitors at random and compose a question or clue that you, at your own leisure, can find on the exhibitor's site. The scavenger hunt can be found here.  Anyone over 21 can participate in this version of the scavenger hunt. A separate scavenger hunt has been created for the Kid's Zone exhibitors. Those who want to participate in either will download the document, complete it, then take a picture of the completed scavenger hunt page and send it via Messenger to the EDA Facebook account or via email to by May 10th. All correct and completed entries will be entered to win a $50 gift certificate to Bill's Brewing Company or Waterline Brewing Company. Prizes must be claimed within 14 days of announcement and be 21 to win. There's also a bonus question on the scavenger hunt from our sponsor City of Wilmington, NC Government Stormwater Services! Those who correctly answer the bonus question will be entered into a separate drawing for a 60-gallon rain barrel courtesy of COW Stormwater Services.

For the youngsters, the Rapping Red Oak from Mr. Mark's Music (Futureshine Entertainment) will perform a song and dance that will be shared in the event so that they can dress as their favorite flora and fauna and have their own Nature Brigade Parade at home. We encourage you to get creative and make costumes from upcycled material around your home! Send us your pictures to share in the event page if you'd like.

Jesse from The Pinkerton Raid will play a short set at 12pm that will be streamed as well. Find your groove and bust a move with us. 🎸

We will stream a video from the NC Aquarium at Fort Fisher at 1pm into the event page!

Perry Smith from Cosmic Groove Lizards will lead a virtual drum circle at 2pm. We will stream his feed into the event page as well. Grab some drums, pots and pans, or whatever to drum along to the beat as we all virtually unite for Earth healing.

We know many were excited to celebrate the 50th anniversary and grab some swag with our awesome logo, so tee shirts, water bottles, tote bags, and other swag for this year's event are available at our Cafe Press store:

We will continue to add posts for exhibitors as they submit their info, so be sure to check back regularly. (Only exhibitors who applied for the event prior to the application deadline will be added.) Please stay safe and follow the recommended precautions. We hope to see you at a live event next Spring. 🌸

The festival would not be possible without the support of our sponsors:
