Wilmington Earth Day

2011 Theme:
"Clear the Air"

Wilmington is on the verge of being designated nonattainment for Sulfur Dioxide. This is due to the Environmental Protection Agency recently lowering the standard.  If this were to happen, New Hanover County would be the only county in North Carolina to be in nonattainment.  The same may also happen in the future for ozone.  The Earth Day Alliance thought this would be a good opportunity to bring attention to this important issue.

Volunteer & Make A Difference

Wilmington's Earth Day Alliance is a non-profit organization dedicated to supporting our planet through environmental education and awareness. This is a small group of volunteers who give freely of their time in order to make the organization — and the annual celebration — a success.

There are a lot of different volunteer opportunities with Wilmington's annual Earth Day Celebration. Whether you're available during the celebration itself — or a different day of the year — there's something for everyone. When was the last time you volunteered? The rewards are endless. Giving just a few hours of your time really does make a difference. Volunteering gives us all a sense of community involvement and can help us build incredible, life-long relationships.

If you would like to get involved as a volunteer, please contact us for more information and for an opportunity that fits your schedule.

You can also participate in Wilmington's Earth Day Celebration as an exhibitor, a sponsor, or even just by attending. This is a great way to spend a day with family and friends. For more information on becoming an exhibitor or a sponsor, please contact Shannon Culpepper of the Earth Day Alliance.
