Nationally, Earth Day is celebrated every year on April 22, although individual communities around the world host celebrations throughout the month of April. This year, Wilmington will be celebrating on Saturday, April 17, 2010. We're also happy to announce that our neighbors in Pender County will be celebrating their first festival this year — also scheduled for April 17, 2010 (click here for more info).
Every year, Wilmington celebrates Earth Day at Hugh MacRae Park around the 3rd Saturday in April. The event usually runs from 12pm-6pm and is completely free to attend. Residents and visitors enjoy food, beverage, live entertainment, a learning center, children's zone, and even shopping — all to celebrate our planet.
The purpose of the Earth Day Celebration is to allow us all to discover what is available in our own back yard — in terms of environmental issues, actions being taken, and volunteer opportunities.
Wilmington's Earth Day Celebration was created by the Wilmington Earth Day Alliance as part of their growing efforts to bring awareness to the Wilmington, NC community. Although the Alliance's efforts are continuous throughtout each year, the focus of their efforts is on the April Celebration.
